A recent study from Dartmouth College found that cosmetic surgery is on the rise in the South American country of Venezuela. There seems to be a rising trend for Venezuelan women to have surgery, specifically nose jobs, in an effort to make themselves look whiter. The women surveyed revealed that that believed a nose job would give them ‘the perfectly-formed nose’.

The study itself examined 63 white, black or racially mixed women and how many of these women wanted to have rhinoplasty procedures. OF the group 24 had already had a rhinoplasty and a futher 39 wanted to have one.

What they women all agreed on however was that the ‘perfect nose’ that they desired was a tall and slender nose, normally associated with being white. The author of the study Lauren Hulbas said that the women who wanted to procedure viewed it as ‘a stop-gap measure to heighten one’s self-esteem and body image’.

The global trend for the increased popularity of rhinoplasty procedures is not just limited to South America as Iran has recently been named the nose job capital of the world, as there were seven times more operations carried out in Iran than in America.
